Azovstal Increased Production of Steel Products by 88%

Azovstal, an integrated iron & steel works (Donetsk region, Ukraine) which is a part of Metinvest holding, has increased production of rolled steel products in January-February 2010 by 87.6% as compared to January-February 2009 – to 859 thousand tons, crude steel – by 83.5% to 923 thousand tons, pig iron – by 80.6% to 784 thousand tons, coke – by 11.4% to 322 thousand tons.

As Interfax-Ukraine has been informed at the works, February production was 403 thousand tons of finished steel, 436 thousand tons of crude steel, 373 thousand tons of pig iron and 150 thousand tons of coke.

In March Azovstal plans to produce 472 thousand tons of steel. It will require 50 thousand tons of steel scrap to do it.

By results of 2009 Azovstal reduced production of finished steel by 15.2% as compared to 2008 to 4.288 M tons, crude steel – by 15.7% to 4.643 M tons, pig iron – by 12.9% to 4.016 M tons, coke – by 7.5% to 2.024 M tons.
